Dan Morgan made a bold move in free agency this offseason, signing two of the top free agents in the 2026 class who also aligned perfectly with the team’s positional needs and scheme fit. However, this came with a significant financial commitment—up to $165 million over the next four years for Jaelan Phillips and Devin Lloyd. When asked, Panthers fans responded more positively to Lloyd’s deal than to Phillips’.
Many fans have expressed concern about Phillips’ injury history and limited production. Despite this, Morgan signed Phillips to a four-year, $120 million deal, even though Phillips has only completed three of his five seasons and has never recorded double-digit sacks in a single season.
The Panthers aggressively pursued the available free agents, but it remains uncertain whether these moves will be enough to maintain their fragile hold atop the NFC South.
