State Health Department Issues Recall Warning for Premade Meal Over Salmonella Risk

Trending 2 hours ago

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) is alerting the public about a recall of a popular premade meal sold at Costco.

The DOH’s Food and Drug Branch (FDB) announced the recall of Costco’s Meatloaf with Mashed Yukon Potatoes and Glaze, Item #30783, after ingredient supplier Griffith Foods Inc. reported potential Salmonella contamination in an ingredient used in the product.

The recalled product is sold chilled in a black-and-clear plastic container and features sell-by dates ranging from 03/05/2026 to 03/16/2026 printed on the label.

The product was distributed to Costco stores across Hawaii. The FDB is working with Costco to ensure the item is removed from shelves and no longer available for purchase.

According to the health department, healthy individuals infected with Salmonella may experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. In rare cases, the infection can lead to more serious conditions including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.

Children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk for severe illness, the DOH emphasized.

Anyone who has consumed the recalled product and is experiencing symptoms should seek medical attention immediately.

To date, there have been no reported illnesses or adverse events linked to this recalled product.

The FDB advises consumers to check if they have purchased the recalled item and to avoid eating it. Customers can return the product to Costco Wholesale for a full refund.

For questions, consumers may contact Costco Wholesale customer service.
